Meet Keleb Green

MSU made its first splash in the portal. Adding the 6-7 Green to slide into the SF role. He's a bit of a combo 3/4 like Carr, but provides a different skill set. Green shot 41% from 3, with 3.4 attempts per game. Izzo is trying to replace a ton of volume lost. So what box does this check? See Thind's post below:

Coming off a 12-point, five-rebound season, he replaces some of the departing production. He is an excellent first option off the bench. Let's look at his numbers:

ree

Great: eFG%, True Shooting, 2p% and 3p%

  • Glenn attempted 169 2's: 36 were dunks (97% made), 129 At The Rim (70% made). Meaning he is taking smart shots most of the time AND converting.

  • Combining strong finishing at the rim AND 40% 3P% led to great eFG%.

  • As Thind and others have noted - Glenn's great in transition. Last year, he was in the 90th percentile as a transition scorer.

  • Why does this matter? MSU wasn't the best at finishing at the rim, where Akin, Tre, and Fears struggled. Enter Gleen, who is a 96th percentile cutter.

Negatives:

  • He had a low FT%, at 60%. There's generally a correlation between FT% and 3%. So I have some concerns that his 41% 3% will regress. Optimistically, the FT% will increase.

Where does he fit?

  • Glenn is likely 6th man. Coming in at the 3 to replace Carr. Glenn's shooting allows him to pair with Fears and Cooper, who are not shooters. This will provide spacing while Kohler is out.

  • Green also has 2 years of eligibility. Historically, transfers see a big jump in development for the second year in the system, see Hauser, Walker, Forbes, etc. His timeline aligns with Fears, Carr (if you assume he plays two more years), Ward, Scott, McCullouch.

MSU still needs to find a starting SG and backup PG from the portal. But this is a great start.
